FAMILY BACKGROUND: 31-year-old mother has spent the past year battling two forms of cancer, ongoing health complications, and refractory epilepsy that has led to repeated hospitalizations. She underwent several surgical procedures this year and continues to fight insurance issues that delayed the most critical surgery she has been waiting for. These medical crises have caused job loss, utility shut-offs, food shortages, medication gaps, and periods of near homelessness. The family is currently staying with relatives as they work toward stability.

Through all of these hardships, her children have remained positive, flexible, and resilient. Her oldest daughter understands far more than a child should and often steps in to care for her younger siblings when their mother is sick or recovering from seizures.
