FAMILY BACKGROUND:
32-year-old single mother supporting two children while caring for her elderly grandmother and working part-time to stay afloat. She is her grandmother’s primary caregiver, especially as her health has declined and she was recently hospitalized for an infection. Despite juggling work, rent, car payments, utilities, and unexpected repairs, she tries her hardest to give her children the holidays they deserve. Since divorcing their father, who is no longer involved or reachable, she has carried the entire household alone. Her children rarely ask for much, understanding how hard she works, and she feels pressure to meet their few requests because they ask so little. Her father passed unexpectedly during the COVID pandemic, leaving her with additional responsibilities, including full care of her 96-year-old grandmother. She often feels overwhelmed, juggling everyone’s needs while putting her own goals, like returning to school, on hold. She hopes for support this Christmas to bring joy to her children, who are straight-A, Principal’s List students and a tremendous source of pride.
