FAMILY BACKGROUND:
A single mother lives in a house in Fair Lawn with her 13-year-old son and her 74-year-old mother, whom she helps care for. This past year has been very hard for the family. Her son has been through bullying and serious situations that changed his childhood, and he now lives with fear, anxiety and PTSD. She says it has felt as if his life was taken out of his hands and placed into the hands of adults and systems making decisions about him. At home, the house needs repairs, the car needs work, and the bills keep coming, so the family is always deciding what must come first. They are tired of living in survival mode. More than anything, she wants Christmas to give her son one day without worry, a day when he wakes up feeling free, safe, loved and like a child again. Help this year would give the family a beautiful memory in a hard chapter, and a reminder that kindness and hope are still out there.
