NJ-2026-0150: Family of four with a disabled mother, a laid-off father and a 2-year-old in speech therapy, hoping for help this Christmas

FAMILY BACKGROUND:
Two little boys, ages 7 and 2, are counting on a Christmas their parents can't afford to give them. The younger one doesn't speak yet. He has disabilities and goes to speech therapy, and he is happiest with little toys that light up, make noise and play music. His big brother could spend all day with Minecraft, video games and dinosaurs.

Their mother is disabled, and her disability income is all this family has had since their father was laid off from the construction job he held for two years. He is out looking for full-time work that pays enough to get them by, and until he finds it, every dollar goes to bills. This family often has to choose between paying rent and buying food or medicine, and Christmas presents aren't even on the table.

Still, in their two-bedroom apartment in Newton they play outside, blow bubbles, sing and dance together, and their mother says that no matter how hard things get, they come together. She believes good will come into their lives soon. A sponsor could be that good: warm winter clothes for a toddler learning to find his words, a Minecraft blanket for a 7-year-old's bed, and a Christmas morning two boys will remember.
